The Queen of Country Music died today, July 16, 2012, at her home in Madison, TN. Kitty Wells was the subject of a musical honor on the album, Honky Tong Angels with Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. The trio of contemporary female vocalists paid homage to the woman who opened the door to what had then been a man’s world - the country music industry - by recording her signature song, “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels”. A Youtube version of the song can be found here.
“Kitty Wells is the Queen … the rest of us are just ladies in waiting.” - Tammy Wynette
