On April 29, 1971, George Jones and Tammy Wynette recorded their first duet together under the production of Billy Sherrill. The song was “Take Me”. The song had been a top ten solo hit for Jones in 1965.
Jones was still under contract to Musicor Records but had announced his intention to leave and sign with Epic Records when his contract expired later in 1971. Sherrill wasted no time in recording the two. They also recorded “We Go Together” during the same session.
Tammy & George can be seen singing their first duet single on “Hee Haw” here (YouTube).
