On September 4, 1991 Dottie West (pictured above with Tammy Wynette in 1980) died from injuries sustained in a car crash. During that same week in 1979 Dottie and duet partner Kenny Rogers peaked at #3 on Billboard’s country charts with their version of Tammy’s hit, “‘Til I Can Make It On My Own”.

“Dottie was country. Not just country music, but country in her heart, her home, her beliefs.” - Tammy Wynette, Sep. 5, 1991 (The Tennesseean)
